DAY 15---PARINTINS

JUST A REMINDER.  USE THE "BLOG ACRHIVE" ON THE RIGHT SIDE BY OUR PHOTO TO SEE POSTS YOU MAY NOT HAVE READ.  ALSO YOU CAN CLICK ON THE PHOTOS TO ENLARGE THEM FOR BETTER VIEWING.

At 10:30 this morning we dropped anchor in the Amazon River at Parintins.  We will be here until 7pm.  Already 83 degrees with 86% humidity with partly sunny skies.  By 3pm it had warmed up to 90.

Background Info

We will be stopping between 11am and 7pm today at Parintins which is the second largest city in the Amazon basin with 110,000 population.  It is on the island of Tupinambarana in the river.  It is famous for an annual 3 day festival in June called Boi Bumba.  This folkloric festival is second only to Carnival in Rio in size and colorful floats and costumes of the dancers and musicians.  The main reason for this stop is to watch the "Boi Bumba Folk Show.

LAST EVENING

Sailing our of Manaus at 4pm and passing by downtown.  Fantastic weather this evening with beautiful sunny skies and 85 degrees, but very nice out on our balcony.
Lots of boats along the river and cruising past us.

Some photos of "the meeting of the waters" where the cleaner, blue water of tributaries flow into the silty, brown waters of the Amazon River.
When in Brazil, you need to have a caipirinha.  It is a cocktail of Sao Paulo origin.  You muddle sugar and lime wedges together then add cachaca.  Cachaca is a liquor made from Brazilian grown sugarcane.
We have a standing order for these pigs in a blanket every evening in Stars Lounge.
Kasia was wearing a very colorful dress.
We drank all the La Crema they had on board just for us.  I had also asked they put this Butter chardonnay on for us.  Here Putu is serving it.  I think we like the Butter over La Crema.
Rebecca started with a Caesar salad.  I had this appetizer portion of Shrimp Fra Diavola, shrimp in a spicy tomato sauce.  It was so good we both had entree portions for our dinner.
This is an apple & blueberry crumble cake with ice cream.  YUMMY!
This was the first time we have seen this production show.  Loved the '50s and '60s songs the sang and danced to.

TODAY

                                                               Anchored at Parintins.
Chicken Caesar today for lunch in Compass Rose.  Plus 6 anchovies.  YUM

Photos of the Boi Bumba Folk Show.

Same plan for this evening.  Cocktails in Stars Lounge with Marcia and Jane.  More pigs in a blanket!  Then at 7pm we will head down to Compass Rose for dinner.  Jane is joining us tonight.
This is tonight's menu.  Nothing very appealing to us so last night I asked the Chef if Rebecca and I could have Southern fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and cream gravy.  I had to explain to him how to make the cream gravy.  He thought he should use cream and I said no, milk to make it.  Remember the Chef is from Poland.  I asked for 6 chicken thighs.  So it will be interesting to see what comes out tonight.  I bet MY fried chicken will be better than his!  I always fry some chicken livers with it.
The show at 9:30 tonight is featuring Jeri Sager's second show.  She will be singing Broadway classics.
We will be sailing again at 7pm.  It's not far to our next port, Santarem.  We will again be anchoring tomorrow.
