DAY 17---CRUISING AMAZON RIVER

Our position at noon today.  The Captain says we will be exiting the Amazon River around 7:30 this evening but at 3:30 it appears on the tv navigational channel that we are now in the ocean but the water is still brown.  Skies are overcast with an occasional passing shower.  Temperature is 82 degrees.  I hope the Atlantic Ocean will be smoother now.

LAST EVENING

Pre-dinner show by Ray, our Cruise Director.  I swear Ray's voice gets better with age.  What a show!!  Great songs.  He got a much deserved standing ovation.

Some of Ray's "friends" joined him singing.  Great ventriloquist.
After the show we headed to Stars Lounge for some pigs in a blanket and cocktail.  Marcia joined us and Nicki, our General Manager, stopped by.
We both started with a shrimp cocktail.
We also enjoyed this black pepper beef stir-fry with scallions , oyster sauce and Jasmine rice.  We asked for some siracha to spice it up.
                                                                        Key lime pie
                                                                     Peanut butter bar
No after dinner show so retired back to our suite and called it a night.

TODAY

Just before 10am we passed by Macapa.  This is where we picked up two river pilots when we entered the Amazon, so today we dropped off the river pilots.  We crossed the Equator again this morning at Macapa so are back in the Northern Hemisphere.
There were many ships anchored near Macapa waiting to go up the river.
This is Matthieu, our new Executive Concierge.  Carlos had appendicitis and had to leave the ship to have surgery around a week ago.  Yesterday, Matthieu boarded in Santarem.  He was at home in France so had to fly from there to Miami to Sao Paulo, to Manaus, to Santarem.  His luggage did not arrive with him but did make it to Santarem just before we sailed.  Very nice young man as we had a nice chat.
At noon today they are having a seafood extravaganza up in La Veranda.  It was supposed to be out on the pool deck but passing showers made them move it inside.  This ice sculpture of a fish was at entrance to La Veranda along with the 3 photos below.

This fish was about 5 feet long.
                                                                 Nasty looking mouth!
However, we had our lunch down in Compass Rose.  Of course, Rebecca had her Atkins bar but I started with this leek tart with gruyere cheese on mixed greens.
I then enjoyed this grilled salmon with a honey butter glaze on rice with asparagus.
At 2pm I went to listen to Brian Unger's talk on the history of bananas.  He is a great speaker and his story was very interesting.
This afternoon I decorated our suite door for St Patrick's Day.

Top tier Seven Seas Society members have been invited to the theater at 5:30 this evening for an exclusive cooking demonstration by the Executive Chef, Jaroslaw.  After it we will hit the Stars Lounge, as usual, for cocktails/wine.
At 7:00 we will be dining in Compass Rose.  Again, we did not care for tonight's menu so yesterday I requested miso sea bass for our entrees.
Tonight's show at 9:30 in the theater is featuring the production cast singers in "Broadway in Concert".
Tomorrow is a day at sea in the Atlantic Ocean.  In fact, the next two days are sea days.
